This is the coolest thing to come out of Europe since the Gaus Wheel :) Sorry about the shameless plug for an invention not related to me, but coincidentally has my last name in it...
Stefan Gulas, an inventor from Berlin, has been working on his dream of a different type of paved transport for over five years. His resulting new product, the eRockit, looks like something that Caractacus Potts could have made prior to his magical flying car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, or maybe even used in a chase scene by Sean Connery in one of the early James Bond films. It's a hybrid of a bicycle and a motorcycle, but by borrowing power from the former and size and form from the latter.
The rider pedals it like a bicycle, but gets normally unseen bicycle speeds through its multiplying of power from unspecified gearing and an on board battery. These allow the eRockit to pedal to speeds of up to 50 mph (80 km/h). Wow, no typos here!! (make sure to watch the YouTube vid or CNN link above). Because it's electric, it has zero emissions...however, its makers say it does need electric charging after 4 hours of use (even while getting some charge when pedaling).
The obviously uncool thing about the eRockit is the current asking price. If Clark Griswold from the fictional Vacation movies bought one, his inquisitively awkward relative Eddie would ask..."Do, you mind me asking, Clark...how much did this set you back?" Right now, it would set him back a little over $40,000 USD.
How would you like to pedal your way onto the Autobahn or take a gingerly cruise up California's highway 1 in your new eRockit?

"And then you buy." Said last night by the master pitchman, Billy Mays, and followed with his famous oxy-white teeth and convincing smile. |
